Our friends over at GreenIndustryPros (not related) recently published a nice article about keeping your fingers, arms and toes where they belong while doing landscaping work.

Three facets of safety:

  1. Proper operation
  2. Use Proper Safety Gear (including safety glasses, gloves and work boots)
  3. Equipment condition

They give some great rules of thumb (get it) on safely using outdoor power equipment.
